Adhesive primer on the window pane or PVC frame? Adhesive primer (also known as adhesion promoter or bonding agent) is even more persistent than conventional deep primer – because it is specifically designed to adhere extremely strongly. In this guide, you will learn how adhesive primer differs from deep primer, on which surfaces removal is possible, and which method really works.
Adhesive primer vs. deep primer: What's the difference?
Deep primer penetrates absorbent substrates and strengthens them. Adhesive primer, on the other hand, remains as a rough layer on the surface and serves as an adhesion bridge for plaster or tile adhesive – usually with a quartz sand content ("quartz primer"). Both, however, are based on the same binders: acrylate or hybrid dispersions. Therefore, the same chemistry applies to the removal of splashes and stains on glass, plastic, and tiles as for deep primer removal.
Where can adhesive primer be removed?
As with deep primer: Only on non-absorbent surfaces – glass, plastic/PVC, glazed tiles, metal, laminate. On plaster, concrete, or gypsum, the adhesive primer is bonded and not removable. Due to the quartz sand content, adhesive primer often requires a longer exposure time and one to two more repetitions.
Why aggressive agents are the wrong choice

- Stronger acids (vinegar essence, cement haze removers) can attack tile glazes and metal and still do not reliably dissolve the polymer matrix.
- Spatulas and blades drag the quartz sand across the surface – risk of scratches on glass, completely unsuitable for plastic.
Removing adhesive primer correctly – step by step
- Check surface: non-absorbent? Then removal is possible.
- Spray or apply remover: For flat splashes of adhesive primer, HATOCH® SPEZIAL 500ml is recommended – it works on all dispersion types including mineral systems. For selective splashes on an acrylic/hybrid basis, the 50ml precision stick is sufficient.
- Allow to soak: 8–10 minutes – adhesive primer needs rather the upper end of the soaking time due to the fillers.
- Wipe off with a sponge: Wipe off the loosened layer along with the quartz sand, clean with water, repeat if necessary.

Frequently asked questions
Does a deep primer remover also work for adhesive primer?
Yes – provided the adhesive primer is on a non-absorbent surface. The binders are chemically related; the quartz sand content merely requires more exposure time.
Can I get rough quartz primer off tiles?
Usually yes: The dispersion is loosened, and the sand dissolves with it. Glazed tiles are not damaged in the process.
